ที่ผ่านมาดิฉันมีความเห็นด้วยอย่างเต็มที่กับแนวทางการสมานฉันท์ของรัฐบาล ซึ่งดิฉันเชื่อว่าแนวทางสู่การสมานฉันท์มักมีความเปราะบาง กล่าวคือไม่ใช่เรื่องง่ายที่จะทำให้ผู้กระทำความผิดยอมรับอย่างเต็มที่และตระหนักถึงสิ่งที่ตนเองกระทำ ดิฉันไม่เคยเรียกร้องให้มีการลงโทษประหารหรือการคุมขัง และการอภัยโทษเป็นสิ่งที่ทำได้ในเวลาที่เหมาะสม แต่ไม่ใช่ในขณะที่ยังไม่มีการสำนึกผิด

การลงคะแนนเสียงเห็นชอบต่อการแก้ไขร่างพระราชบัญญัตินิรโทษกรรมครั้งนี้ ถือเป็นการทรยศต่อผู้ที่เคยให้ความไว้วางใจและให้ความหวังกับหลักนิติธรรม ซึ่งจะถางทางนำไปสู่การยุติวัฒนธรรมของการลอยนวลพ้นผิด เป็นสิ่งที่น่าผิดหวังและลบหลู่ศักดิ์ศรีของมนุษย์ เป็นอุปสรรคอย่างแท้จริงต่อการอยู่ร่วมกันและความสมานฉันท์ เป็นการแทงข้างหลังผู้ที่ได้สูญเสียทั้งเลือดและน้ำตาไปแล้ว

เราควรมีจุดมุ่งหมายร่วมกันไม่ว่าจะมาจากการเมืองสีใดที่จะถางทางนำไปสู่การยอมรับและสำนึกผิดต่อสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นด้วยมโนธรรมสำนึก การนิรโทษที่ผิดพลาดย่อมสร้างความชอบธรรมให้กับอาชญากรรมที่ไม่อาจยอมรับได้ เป็นการให้ใบอนุญาตเพื่อสั่งฆ่าซ้ำสอง และเป็นการปิดโอกาสที่ความจริงจะปรากฏขึ้น การนิรโทษเช่นนี้เป็นความผิดพลาดร้ายแรง เป็นทางเลือกที่เลวร้ายสุด
