The Thai people have learned to expect injustice so that they can’t be disappointed.

And yet I know that millions of Thais share my disappointment in the courts decision yesterday, people who knew this was coming but wanted desperately to be proven wrong.

The eyes of the world have been upon the nation yesterday. The media has called it “Judgment Day” but very distressing and difficult time. Thank you.

The UDD urges all those who value democracy and equal justice in this country to remember this lesson well, to accept the outcome, and respond with cold, angry silence. We remain committed to our Six Principles, including non-violence and urge all members of the UDD to do the same.

We hope that it recognizes its responsibility to uphold equal justice for all Thais, no matter who they are or what their status is.

But know better than to expect this. We have learned what the Abhisit government means when it talks about “upholding the law,” and what it doesn’t mean. It is more like Humpty Dumpty Law!

We can not accept this judicial process in this particular case since Asset Examination Commission (AEC) was appointed by the Coupmakers. The investigation, the prosecution, the Supreme Court’s Political Division and the judgment handed down in this partial seizure, are unfair.  However, UDD would like to commend the majorities of the Judge who give partial fairness.

It is a verdict that will receive justified criticism from the Thai people, who, as sovereign owners of this country, have every right to criticize it, who have every right to recognize this entire process as being flawed and politically motivated from the outset.

But we expected nothing less from a system that was handed down to the Thai people by force, not choice.

And yet I know that millions of Thais share my disappointment in the courts decision today, people who knew this was coming but wanted desperately to be proven wrong.

The UDD would like to extend our sympathy and support to the Shinawatra family in what must be a very distressing and difficult time. Thank you.
