Thai King to endorse Yingluck Monday
BANGKOK, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej will endorse the election of Yingluck Shinawatra, as Thailand's 28th and first female Prime Minister on Aug 8 (Monday), Thai House of Representatives Secretary General Pithoon Pumhiran said.
Yingluck, the youngest sister of exiled ex-Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, was elected Thailand's first female prime minister by the majority vote of the country's 500-seat House of Representatives on Friday.
The 44-year-old leading Thai businesswoman-turned politician gained support from 296 MPs, reflecting the majority vote enjoyed by her Pheu Thai Party.
"The Secretariat of the Thai House of Representatives has already been informed by the Bureau of the Royal Household that the King will grant an audience to Thai House Speaker Somsak Kiartsuranont at 5:30pm on August 8 at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital, where the revered Thai monarch has been recuperating" Thai News agency citing Pithoon as saying.
Pithoon added that the Bureau of the Royal Household said in the letter sent to the Secretariat of the Thai House that His Majesty will endorse a royal command officially appointing Yingluck as the Kingdom's new prime minister when the Thai House Speaker is granted the audience with the Thai monarch.
